Place Your Bets Here + College Football Rankings
Looks like USC will pull it out...wait...there's a RIVALRY game left to be played...and we all know what Rivalry games do to people...don't we?
Let me just say this...I was playing NCAA Football 07 the other day and there were 4 undefeated teams going into the last week of the season.
3 of them were in conference championship games and ALL OF THEM LOST...now this is a simulated video game, but its possible...and I bring that up because if USC loses... that'll be 2 out of the 3 teams that had to lose for Michigan to get a rematch...Arkansas lost to LSU and now Florida will lose to Arkansas...so U-C-L-A...make it happen
Dr. Hak's Rankings - 2nd to Last Week
#1 Ohio State
#2 Michigan
#3 USC - hey, Michigan beat Notre Dame worse AT South Bend...who'd win a Michigan - USC game...UM 35-20...but hey, I can't be mad, they did lose a game. U want to make the title game, u have to go undefeated...thats the only way to guarantee that you...hey huh? what? Oh, sorry I forgot about Auburn...we need a 4 team playoff. Or a Plus One format to the BCS bowls

College Football is My Girlfriend and She's Leaving Me in Two Weeks
I've had some time to think about my rankings and I've made some decisions.
We are now at the point in the season where you can take what a team did for an entire year into consideration.
We are not at the point in the season where you can rank a team ahead of another team that beat them even if they have the same number of losses.
We are now at the time of the season where no one knows what's going to happen in the "race for #2" but there will damn sure be some upsets.
OK...Let's go
Dr. Hak's T-minus-2 weeks Rankings
#1 Ohio State - and deservedly so
#2 Michigan - Henne, Hart, and Co. might get another shot in 2008 season if not a re-match this year. Ohio State lost their entire defense and came back to the BCS title game, I'm sure the Wolverines could too.
#3 USC - I will move them up if they thrash Notre Dame worse than Michigan did
#4 Arkansas
#5 West Virginia - in the debate about who would give Ohio State the best game...I'd LOVE to see Ohio State and West Virginia hang 60 on each other. It'd be a battle of fitness more than anything else
#6 Florida
#7 Louisville
#8 Rutgers - not sure why they dropped to 15 in the "expert" polls...actually I am sure but I don't agree with it unless they lose again.
#9 Wisconsin - would've been nice to see them play Ohio State
#10 Notre Dame - I don't f*** with the Fighting Irish. You'll see why on Saturday - as if Michigan 47 - 21 @ home wasn't enough.
#11 Boise State
#12 Texas
#13 LSU
#14 Oklahoma
#15 Auburn
#16 Hawaii
#17 Georgia Tech
#18 Boston College
#19 Virginia Tech
#20 Wake Forest
#21 FAMU

Ain't Gonna Be No Rematch, Says Apollo Creed
Hopefully there will be a rematch. I'm watching USC-Cal...its 3-2 in the 2nd quarter. I'm not impressed.
USC isn't the #2 team in the nation
I've been watching Florida all season...the Gators are not the #2 team in the nation
I'd love to say its Rutgers. I like Ray Rice, I like their defense. But they are losing 17-3 at the half to Cincinnati
West Virginia isn't better than Michigan
Notre Dame lost at home to Michigan by 4 touchdowns and it could've been 8.
Arkansas lost to USC. It was the first week of the season but they did lose that game and it was like 50-14.
So can I rank Michigan #2? Does it even matter?
I wonder what the AP will do. They are probably not all going to see this USC game. Its possible USC will lose...as I type this...Cal just made it 9-6.
I wonder what the coaches and computers will do.
I agree with the broadcasters at the end of the game. Michigan and Ohio State are the best two teams in the country. The Wolverines outplayed the Buckeyes but gave up those random long runs and that penalty at the end...that hurt. I'm depressed (had a bad beat in a poker tournament where first place was a 42 inch plasma. my aces got cracked. i would've been chip leader)
So...we'll have to see. I'll have rankings up after the weekend is done
Hail! to the Victors
or whatever
Michigan 34 - 24 Ohio State and My Family History
My father and mother met while attending grad school in Ann Arbor many years ago, and in my very first months of life while my mommy finished her PhD in comparative literature, I sat quietly with her in the library as onlookers marveled at how well-behaved a young man I was.
They still marvel, but now its because I'm Dr. Hak and I've got the medicine.
Regardless, my grandaunt Thelma Budd Jones passed away a few months ago. She was as close to me as my grandmother (her sister, my dad's mother) if not more and her insights are still missed to this day. I'm flashing back right now to the fly pictures of her and her sisters as young beautiful AKAs back in the day...
OK, so when I went to Detroit for the service, I took the opportunity to ask my dad if we could go to Ann Arbor. Its only 25 miles from DTW airport, and you know, since I live in Houston, TX, that's down the street. My dad thought it was far, so I drove.
I got to see the Big House, which is tucked inside of a hill kinda sorta, and his old apartment, which was maybe 2 blocks away - close enough that they can charge $10 for parking if they want on game day.
Well then I asked him to show me where he and my mother met, and you know what he tells me? "Oh we met in Detroit at TV station 50 while working on a show".
I was like WHAT!? All this time I thought it went down differently.
Its all good though. I got to see some of the other important landmarks on campus and the buildings they used to take class in.
If I get a PhD of my own (Dr. Hak for REAL up in this piece), i had decided a while back that I'd go to Michigan to get it. This is probably still true.
So there you have it. The only school I care half as much about as FAMU is the University of Michigan.
So you might ask, how does that affect my view on this Saturday's Game of the Century?
Well what do you think?
When I was little my dad used to sing
Hail! to the victors valiantHail! to the conqu'ring heroesHail! Hail! to Michigan,the champions of the West!
...ALL THE TIME
My mother's cousin is Ed Shuttlesworth (see fullbacks), star fullback for Michigan in the early 70s. In fact, when my mother went to school there, all she had to do "was tell people I wad Ed Shuttlesworth's family and they were really really nice to me"
If I had been a big time college recruit, in football or basketball, I'dve gone to Michigan. In 1998 I don't think another school would've had a chance...except one with a black coach and there was only one...Ty Willingham at U-Washington...umm no.
So there you have it. I'm a Rattler till I die, I bleed Orange and Green, but I love Maize and Blue so what ya gonna do

~~~~~~~~~~~
As i'm writing this, legendary Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler passed away at age 77. May God bless his family and us all .
I have no idea how this affects the mood of the players and coaches - especially Lloyd Carr, his mentee and current Wolverines coach...
I am saddened that he didn't get to see this game, the game of the century, one that would not be nearly as big of a deal if not for his influence during his war with Buckeyes former coach Woody Hayes.
~~~~~~~~
4th Quarter - The Buckeyes strike back
Troy Smith 14 yd TD run
27 - 17
Gonzalez 8 yd TD catch from Smith

Ohio State goes for it on 4th down with 6 minutes to play...Troy Smith tries to do too much and gets stopped behind the line of scrimmage. Michigan takes over and seals the game with a
Mike Hart 3 yd TD run
